Study on the Tribological Properties of Micro-Al2O3 Modified Carbon Fiber Hybrid-Reinforced Polymer

Micro-sized Al2O3-modified carbon fiber hybrid reinforced polymer composites (CFHRP) were prepared using the vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process, and friction wear tests performed on an MRTR-1 multifunctional tester to study effect of surface doping with trace amounts Al2O3 its content tribological properties composites. The morphology composite material was characterized a three-dimensional confocal laser scanning microscope (LSM). results showed that under dry conditions, behavior micro-Al2O3 added mainly abrasive adhesive wear. Under condition water lubrication, coefficient higher than fiber/epoxy resin-based without Al2O3, significantly reduced. In addition, cooling boundary lubrication played dominant role in behavior, so influence film smaller conditions. When micro alumina is 6%, reduction CFHRP are improved containing micrometer has minimal change coefficient.
